Jules Slutsky is a Ukrainian born photo journalist and portrait photographer. Her work explores themes of identity, nationality, and memory, often through the lens of personal and collective histories.
Jules approaches her subjects with respect and care, while blending documentary photography with a fine art sensibility. She prefers an unobtrusive and intimate connection with her subjects that allow for a sensitivity to the emotional undercurrents of her subjects’ lives.
Her recent 2026 book, “The Porous Border“, published with Kris Graves Projects, is a reflection on nationhood and collective trauma, continuing her exploration of how personal histories are shaped by larger socio-political events.
Her work has been featured in publications, such as The Washington Post, The New York Times, Huck Magazine, Adventure Magazine, and Vanity Fair. She’s exhibited in both solo and group shows and her photographs have been collected by major institutions like the Museum of Modern Art and the Guggenheim Museum.
